Nurse Jessica Sites, has over two decades worth of experience in the healthcare industry, as a labor and delivery registered nurse in Tampa area in Florida who knows all too well the emotional trauma, yet gratifying moments nurses go through on a daily basis. After 20 long years of 12 hour shifts, she finally took a leap of faith to become a full-time social media influencer who uses her platform, decades worth of healthcare experience, and comedic talent to be voice for workers in the healthcare industry while also being an outlet for other nurses and other healthcare professionals who are facing challenges in their career, and helps to bring awareness and educate them on their options as they navigate the many stresses, nationwide nurses shortage crisis, changes in the healthcare industry, and major societal challenges plaguing the healthcare industry. It emphasizes the need for nurses to actively support legislation and join unions to bring about change. The conversation also highlights success stories of nurses standing up for their rights and the significance of having a seat at the table in decision-making processes. Fear of retaliation from management should not deter nurses from joining unions. Bonus Episode!!
On September 13th, 2024, 600 nurses exerted their legally protected right participating in an unfair labor practice strike at Kapi'olani Medical Center for Women and Children. The nurses are represented by the Hawaii Nurses Association/OPEIU Local 50 union. This is their second strike this year. The first one was a seven day strike in January. The 9/13/2024 strike was a planned one-day only strike. Despite the short duration, the hospital went to the media (allegedly) to announce their plans to lockout the nurses indefinitely when they attempt to return to work on September 14, 2024. In addition to being an illegal lockout, it has the potential for setting a very dangerous precedent for nurses and unions everywhere.
Nurse Jessica and Nurse Erica traveled to Honolulu, Hawaii to support the Kapi'olani nurses. This podcast was recorded on the actual strike line. The hosts share their experiences and what they witnessed. Four of the striking nurses are interviewed and share their individual experiences. Erica and Jessica would like to thank the Kapi'olani nurses and the Hawaii Nurses Association/OPEIU Local 50 for welcoming them.

In this episode, Nurse Jessica Sites and Nurse Erica interview Jamal Chubb, who shares his experience of his wife contracting COVID-19 while pregnant in 2021. They discuss the challenges they faced, including the possibility of his wife, Cierra, not surviving and the need to deliver their baby early. Jamal discusses the importance of sharing his story on social media to provide hope and raise awareness about the virus. He also addresses the negative comments and judgment he received. Jamal shares the emotional experience of driving his newborn baby home from the hospital without his wife and the struggles of communicating with her while she was in the hospital. The milestones of Cierra's recovery, such as walking and being taken off the ventilator, are celebrated. He highlights the support and care provided by healthcare professionals and encouragement received from people following his story. Jamal and Cierra's faith and love for each other shines through. Despite the prognosis, Cierra eventually recovered; Jamal is now pursuing his dream of becoming a motivational speaker and his new company framework motivation. He believes that there is purpose in the hardships they have faced and wants to empower others through his story.
